Mastering is the vital process that ensures maximum impact on the consumer via broadcast and at home.
The technical and creative art of balancing, equalising and enhancing is applied to fine tune the audio to achieve optimum sound quality and provide overall enrichment to a music project.
Mastering options include:
- Adding detail to an indistinct vocal performance
- Modifying the apparent prominence of various elements in the mix
- Overall dynamic control of a final mix
- Addition of reverb, audience or special effects
- Crossfading of mixes together for seamless transition between songs
- Control of excessive sibilance or top end
- Adding sonic depth, sustain & stereo enhancement to increase impact
- Re-mixing lead vocals, backing vocals & instrumental from sub mixes using Sequoia & ProTools
- Maximum playback level for radio & TV airplay (makes your music apparently louder)
As the mastering session progresses, attention is paid not only to the sound within each track, but also to the overall continuity from track to track to accomplish a smooth flowing and level-matched final product.
There are many variables involved in a mastering session however, on average, allow 1 hour per song for singles and EP’s, and album projects are generally completed within an 8-12 hour session depending upon how many songs there are on the album. You are welcome and encouraged to attend the mastering session.
